Couples Counseling

Why Couples Counseling?

Relationships bring out both the best and worst in us. The most challenging and the most satisfying aspects of our lives can usually be found in our intimate relationships.

What creates successful relationship is openness and trust. However, the dynamics between two people can easily get stuck in a negative pattern that does not allow clear, healthy, trusting communication. We find ourselves getting more frustrated and hurt, and this further complicates the way we communicate.

Counseling sessions explore how these negative relational dynamics are constructed and how they become an obstacle when two people seek to be closer. Counseling sessions provide ways to facilitate the trust and openness between the couple, so that healthy communication can be restored. Both parties are seen and heard.

Enriching and Enhancing Your Relationship

Counseling sessions are not only for difficult and painful times. Couples can benefit greatly by checking in with each other and practicing more active listening to clear out the air. A “tune up” is very beneficial to any relationship. The therapist can assist the couple and help them listen and speak to each other in a way that deepens the connection.

Unspoken resentments can easily build up and become bigger issues than they need to be. Latent potentials can easily be overlooked, leading to relationships that feel stuck. Just as each person is unique, each relationship has an innate quality that can be brought out to enhance the couple’s life and creativity.

Ending a Relationship

Sometimes couples reach the point where they realize they are on separate paths. This realization provides an opportunity to create a new kind of relationship and a healthier way of relating. The old forms must die so that something new can emerge. Counseling sessions can be a place to explore such possibilities, and provide new perspectives and meanings during this challenging time of transition.
